› Writers in Paradise is back in person in St. Petersburg in January
For book lovers, it’s Paradise regained. The Writers in Paradise conference comes back this month as an in-person event at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, after a couple of years as a virtual event. Co-founded in 2005 by author and Eckerd alumnus Dennis Lehane (”Mystic River”) and former Eckerd creative writing director Sterling Watson (”Night Letter”), the conference draws writers from across the country.
› Fanatics sells its stake in NFT company Candy Digital
Fanatics Inc.’s expanding sports business empire took a step backward. CNBC reported Jan. 4 that the sports merchandise company sold off its 60% stake in NFT company Candy Digital, which was formed in 2021. The financial news network posted an internal email on its website from Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin explaining the move. “NFTs will most likely emerge as an integrated product/feature and not as a standalone business,” the email said.
› Lunar New Year Festival in Central Florida showcases traditional performances, crafts and more
Lion dancing, drum performances and live demonstrations are coming to the Orlando area with this year’s Lunar New Year Festival. The Lunar New Year Festival is happening on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at XL Soccer World in Lake Nona. The festival will feature traditional lion dancing, tai chi classes, Asian food vendors, and dancing. It will also have a kids craft station to make Chinese lanterns, Vietnamese hats, Korean fans and drums, and Japanese origami.
