› Smart tech comes standard in Orlando ‘apartment of the future’
Smart technology has spread so fast that more than half of the homes in the U.S. have at least one smart device, such as an Amazon Echo or Google Home Dot. A new tech partnership is looking to expand that reach even more in apartment communities, according to a report in GrowthSpotter. Samsung this week announced a partnership to integrate its SmartThings devices with tech company CommScope’s Ruckus network, which allows landlords and property to have connected smart technology throughout their buildings.
› Florida House avoids vote to ban state investments in Russian companies
The Florida House avoided a vote Thursday that would have prohibited the state from investing in Russian companies, citing a technicality for not taking up the proposal. State Rep. Andrew Learned tried to amend a bill dealing with the state’s retirement system to divest holdings in Russian-based assets. The Republican-controlled Florida House ruled Learned’s amendment out of order on a technicality.

Sarasota County and Venice city officials are in talks that could lead to moving Venice's solid waste department out of the Seaboard area to a joint facility off Knights Trail Road, opening the door to redevelopment of a prime waterfront area near the heart of the city.
› Jet Linx boosts private jet service in South Florida. See where it flies
Private aviation company Jet Linx is expanding in South Florida. In addition to opening a new terminal at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport, the company said Thursday it will acquire Southern Jet, a Boca Raton-based private jet charter company. The acquisition, the company’s fifth since 2015, is part of its strategic plan to buy select local aviation operators in regions it serves to boost service.
