› Florida Judge Dismisses New Challenge To Dog Racing Ban
After rejecting an earlier version of the lawsuit in April, a federal judge has dismissed a challenge to a 2018 constitutional amendment that will end greyhound racing in Florida. U.S. District Judge Mark Walker issued a three-page order granting a request by Attorney General Ashley Moody to dismiss the lawsuit, filed by the industry group Support Working Animals, Inc., and individual plaintiffs.
› Logistics firm plots new $11M HQ project, 140 new hires
Scotlynn USA, a fast-growing logistics and transportation firm, has announced plans to build a new $11 million headquarters. The company, which specializes in truckload transportation and the distribution of perishable products, is building its new central hub at 9597 Gulf Research Lane in Fort Myers.
› Publix employee barred from wearing Black Lives Matter face mask while at work
Amid nationwide protests and rallies, a Lehigh Acres man was recently told by his assistant manager at Publix that he could not wear a face mask supporting the Black Lives Matters movement while at work. Quinton Desamours, 18, worked at the Publix on Lee Boulevard in Lehigh Acres for about 1½ months before the incident.
› Florida Gas Prices Top $2 But Level Off
Average gasoline prices in Florida have topped $2 a gallon for the first time since March, but fears about another surge in COVID-19 cases could head off continued price increases. The AAA auto club said an average gallon of regular unleaded gas in Florida costs $2.02, up 12 cents from last Monday and 25 cents from a month ago. But crude oil prices dropped 8 percent last week, with experts pointing to fears about a potential second round of COVID-19 shutdowns.
