› Does Wynwood really need more office and retail space? This developer thinks so
Foot traffic is booming on Wynwood’s busy Northwest 24th Street. Now, developers are eyeing the Northwest 28th Street corridor as the next neighborhood hot spot. The Wynwood-based development firm Fortis Design + Build has two projects planned for the strip: a 15,000-square-foot office/retail center and a 50,000-square-foot commercial space whose use has not yet been finalized.

› Marine lenders hold record-setting conference in Florida
The National Marine Lenders Association recently concluded its 40th Annual Conference at the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Fla. The educational and networking conference was held in mid-November and drew over 175 attendees, up 41% from last year.

› Gov. DeSantis OKs paid time off for Florida state workers on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve
It’s Gov. Ron DeSantis’ holiday gift to state workers this year: Two days off with pay. DeSantis this week announced state offices will be closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 31. “I am proud to recognize our state employees for their hard work and efforts in this way,” the governor said in a statement.

› Florida fruit and vegetable varieties recognized
The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences has recognized standout fruit and vegetable varieties introduced this year. “UF/IFAS faculty work tirelessly to develop improved plant cultivars needed by Florida’s agricultural industries,” John Beuttenmuller, director of the Florida Foundation Seed Producers, a direct support organization of the University of Florida, said.
