› As hurricane season begins, FPL tries to reduce outages
The state’s largest electric utility is applying lessons learned last year from Hurricane Irma — which left much of Florida in the dark last September — in an effort to avoid mass power outages should another major storm strike this hurricane season, which begins Friday.

› FDA approves new drug developed by Boca Raton-based firm
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has given IMVEXXY the OK, making it TherapeuticsMD's first market-approved product. It will enter commercial distribution in the third quarter, as early as July.

› Sarasota County moves to ban recreational marijuana
The County Commission last week unanimously voted to authorize its staff to draft an amendment to current county laws to prohibit the growing, processing and sale of recreational marijuana should it ever become legal in the state.
