Supreme Court abortion ruling could impact Florida restrictions

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court, by a 5-3 vote in a Texas case, threw out a requirement that abortion clinics have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals. This year, the Florida Legislature approved and Gov. Rick Scott signed into law HB 1411 that has a similar provision. Florida's HB 1411 goes into effect Friday, July 1. "We are reviewing the ruling," Gov. Scott's spokewsoman Jackie Schutz said. In the short term, the decision is expected to have an impact on efforts in Florida to block a restrictive abortion law from taking effect July 1.
