Flying high on renewable biofuel

When a Falcon 20commercial jet flying over Canada’s capital city of Ottawa recently logged the first-ever civilian flight powered by 100% renewable biofuel, the trip marked a triumphant conclusion to six years of research at the Panama City offices of Applied Research Associates.

Popular Science called the flight one of 2012’s most-important science events. Biofuels Digest presented its 2012 Best New Fuel award to the company.

Gulf Power wants to start program to attract businesses

Gulf Power plans to launch a new initiative next month to make Northwest Florida more aggressive in attracting businesses to the region. Hundreds of acres are waiting to be developed by companies looking to open, move or expand in industrial parks and other locations. [Source: Northwest Florida Daily News]


JAXUSA pursuing Chinese business

The JAXUSA Partnership has hired a consultant to pursue business in China looking to expand to the U.S., according to Mike Breen, JAXUSA Partnership International Department senior director. "The Chinese government is encouraging its businesses to expand outside of the country and become more globalized, so there are opportunities there and we want to be a player in that," said Breen.  sun ray cinemaAt a time when movie theaters are facing increased competition from in-home rental services like Netflix, Tim Massett decided to renovate an 86-year-old theater in Jacksonville’s 5 Points area and open a single-screen 200-person venue that offers beer, wine and non-traditional movie food. Massett opened Sun-Ray Cinema in December 2011 after raising $100,000 from private investors and crowd-sourcing.
