Coast to Coast

Tampa General Hospital, in collaboration with a Boston partner, will fan an ambulatory network across East Florida.

Tampa General Hospital is looking to Florida's East Coast, where it's launching an ambulatory network with Boston-based academic health system Mass General Brigham.

The joint venture will begin with a new radiation oncology center opening later this year in Palm Beach Gardens. Tampa General and Mass General Brigham also will expand the Tampa General Physicians Network, which currently spans 20 locations. Both initiatives will tap into the more than 2 million residents across Martin, St. Lucie and Palm Beach counties, increasing access to services such as specialty and primary care, oncology, imaging and outpatient surgical procedures.

John Couris, president and CEO of Florida Health Sciences Center and Tampa General, said in a statement that the partnership with Mass General Brigham, one of the nation's top academic health systems, "reflects our vision to lead in delivering innovative, patient-centered care across the state, while strengthening the health of our communities today and for generations to come."

This isn't the first partnership between the two health systems. Tampa General and Mass General Brigham first combined forces in 2021, when they launched Home Base Florida for serving veterans and their families at Tampa General. In 2023, the Boston health system helped its Tampa-based collaborator build a bone marrow transplant program. — By Brittney J. Miller
