Florida adds 10,347 new coronavirus cases, 90 deaths

Florida reported 10,347 new coronavirus cases and 90 new deaths on Monday. Statewide, there have now been 360,394 infected and 5,072 Florida residents killed. Monday’s update comes on the heels of a new weekly record for cases, deaths and tests in Florida. Statewide, 740 virus deaths were reported from Sunday to Sunday. Bahamas to close to U.S. travelers starting Wednesday

The Bahamas will close its borders to travelers from the United States starting Wednesday, Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis said Sunday. Minnis, who has also been the acting health minister, cited recent spikes in COVID-19 cases in the US and elsewhere in banning international travel, with some exemptions for emergency and essential travel. Travelers from Canada, the United Kingdom and the European Union will still be permitted to come to the Bahamas. More from the South Florida SunSentinel.

Financial help hotline for Florida renters, homeowners

Over $120 million have been given to the state of Florida through the CARES Act to help with rental and mortgage assistance. A new hotline is opening Monday to help anyone with questions. The money can be used for rental and mortgage assistance payments, emergency repair and new construction related specifically to a need caused by the COVID-19 emergency. More from WJAX.

Retailers say they’re stocked for hurricane season, despite pandemic shortfalls

 Retailers prepare months in advance, planning their inventory distribution to meet the demand. And while many stores have faced temporary shortages of everyday household items due to the pandemic, they say inventory is returning to normal levels, though some items like cleaners and disinfectants can still be hard to find. Compared to previous years, Home Depot’s inventory of hurricane supplies is relatively similar, said Pete Capel, vice president of field merchandising.
