Publix’s big announcement: 700 new jobs at expanded Lakeland HQ
On Thursday, Publix announced it will add 200,000 square feet to its corporate headquaters and 700 new jobs.
The company created a model out of cake of its expanded headquarters. Story.
Publix CEO & President Todd Jones said, “Publix’s growth is made possible by the hard work of our associates and the loyalty of our customers. We are proud of the role we continue to play in the great state of Florida.” The dominant grocer in Florida and largest private employer operates stores in six other states: Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee and Virginia. Cybersecurity training could be a boon for Florida’s future workforce
“Right now, we have 13,000 cybersecurity jobs that are unfilled in Florida," says Eman El-Sheik, the director of the Center for Cybersecurity at the University of West Florida. "These are jobs that have an average starting wage of $85,000.” El-Sheik added that by 2030 the nationwide cybersecurity deficit will be in the millions. [Source: Florida Politics]

More than 28,000 lionfish removed during 2018 Lionfish Challenge
A total of 28,260 lionfish were removed during the 2018 Lionfish Challenge, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Lionfish are considered to be an invasive species that have a negative impact on native species in the area. The FWC encourages folks to remove lionfish from Florida's waters.
