State won’t see $98 million in projected Medicaid savings from retroactive coverage cut

During the 2018 legislative session, Florida lawmakers approved a measure that directs the state’s Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) to seek authorization from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to eliminate the 90-day retroactive eligibility period for non-pregnant adults beginning July 1, 2019. Florida Department Of Health reports 62 Zika cases

Florida has had 62 reported cases of the mosquito-borne Zika virus this year, though it does not have any areas of active transmission, according to numbers posted online by the Florida Department of Health. [Source: CBS Miami]

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 107 people from 21 states, including Florida, have reported contracting measles between January 1 to July 14, 2018.

› 4.3 million Floridians to get new Medicare cards next month
Check your mailboxes Florida residents because your new Medicare card is coming soon. Federal health officials are mailing the new cards in geographic waves so Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina are also getting new cards along with 4.3 million Floridians.

› New health care facility being built in Wildlight community
A groundbreaking event took place last week for a new health care facility in the Wildlight community, one of the fastest growing areas in Nassau County. UF Health Jacksonville officials broke ground on the 40,000-square-foot medical office building, which will be a one-stop shop including primary care offices, urgent care, imaging services and dentistry.

› Two Central Florida health centers receive federal grants
Forty-six community health centers in Florida received more than $5.5 million in federal quality improvement grants, a 16.8-percent increase from last year’s funding. Locally, Health Care Center for the Homeless received more than $122,000 and Community Health Centers received $80,000.
