Expos Can Provide Direct Exposure for Entrepreneurs

Orlando Sentinel | 8/27/2009
In this penny-pinching climate, entrepreneurs have to be extra creative about marketing their products.

For Maureen Christy and Lauren Howery, that means coming face-to-face with potential clients at the Smart Baby Expo. The event was to take place Sunday in the Florida Hotel and Conference Center.

Christy and Howery recently launched Free To Be Me Baby Products LLC, a Winter Park business that sells bottle warmers for on-the-go babies. The product, which resembles a beer cozy, warms a baby bottle using a disposable hot pack. "It is really great for traveling," Howery said. As for the expo: "This is going to be our huge way to get out and talk to mothers directly and get their feedback."

It's a strategy that's working for Shannon Baker, owner of Meet Your Miracle. The east Orange company, which provides mobile ultrasound services, first got involved with the expo last winter and is now a sponsor. Baker planned to offer discounted services at Sunday's show.

"I've been busy most of the summer just from Expo moms," Baker said.
