Based on a 2009 study of six economic indicators — employment/workforce, income, productivity, housing, and innovation and education — Tampa Bay ranked third overall when compared to five similar-sized metro regions.

4. Charlotte, N.C.

5. Jacksonville

6. Atlanta

Note: Tampa Bay finished third in 2008 and fourth in 2007.
