As general counsel for Community Foundation of Sarasota County, which helps set up charitable funds, then helps issue scholarships and grants in the local community, Betsy Pennewill is responsible for compliance with all laws, IRS regulations and Community Foundation National Standards. She works with donors and advisors to craft agreements that reflect donor intent; she drafts policies for the staff and the board, and stays current with legal matters. She is a member of Southeastern Council of Foundations, the Florida Bar and the Southwest Florida Estate Planning Council. She was an estate planning attorney for years before joining the foundation. Pennewill also volunteers for Bishop Museum and Saint Stephen’s Episcopal School.
