Florida adds 23,000 jobs in September while unemployment rate is unchanged

For the fifth straight month, the state's jobless rate remained at 4.7 percent in September, according to numbers released Friday morning from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. The state added a healthy 23,000 jobs over the month, down slightly from 24,500 in August. More from the Tampa Bay Times and the AP.

More than a million Floridians have already voted

More than 1 million voters have already cast ballots in the presidential election in Florida. The state reported Friday that 997,123 people have voted by mail, but the posted total will easy surpass 1 million as county election supervisors report updated tallies throughout the day Friday. Harris Corp. and FPL teaming up

Melbourne-based Harris Corp. and Florida Power & Light Co. are teaming up to develop an advanced digital system for FPL's operations throughout the Sunshine State. FPL is the nation's third largest utility which serves about 10 million people in Florida. More from Florida Today.

The county's official public/private partnership reported 20 company relocations and expansions, 2,646 new high-paying jobs, 943 retained jobs and $210 million in new capital investment that came to South Florida as part of its efforts. Shamed for overcharging patients, some Florida hospitals raised their prices — again
