Clearwater's Tech Data Inc. to buy technology firm for $2.6 billion

Tech Data Inc., already Tampa Bay's largest public company, could jump to become the largest company in Florida under a mega-deal announced this morning. The Clearwater-based IT products distributor, will purchase Avnet's Technology Solutions. The value of the deal: $2.6 billion. The acquistion expands Tech Data's reach as an end-to-end global IT distributor with operations in 35 countries. Full statement from Tech Data is here. Medical device firm moves to Tampa Bay Area

Intellitech, a Maryland manufacturer of liquid filling and closure machinery used in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries, relocated its corporate headquarters to St. Petersburg. More from the Business Observer.

On the 5 Enterprise Florida CEO candidates

Five economic development veterans from around the country made the final cut from 102 candidates who applied to take the heavily scrutinized role as president and CEO of Florida’s public-private economic partnership. According to the Naples Daily News, the five candidates are

  • Christine L. Adamow, former department head of the Ringling College of Art & Design’s Department of Business and Art Design; founding member of the International Collaborative Leadership Institute in Naples
  • Richard M. Biter, a retired assistant secretary of the Florida Department of Transportation.
  • Reid Dulberger, Economic Development officer for the Memphis & Shelby County Mayors of Tennessee
  • Michael Finney, former CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation
  • Michael L. McGee, senior commercial officer with the U.S. Department of Commerce in Bogota, Colombia
