Traditionally, veterans have had higher rates of employment compared with the general population. But the opposite has been true for the generation dubbed Gulf War-era II veterans by the government. Recent data, however, suggests a turnaround. More at Bloomberg.

Amid profit, asset gains, Florida’s banks show one worrisome trend

What a difference a year makes for Florida commercial banks and savings institutions. Third-quarter net income for the state’s banks was up 22 percent, and assets at the end of 3Q 2015 were up 9.5 percent. More at the Tampa Bay Business Journal.

Traffic fatalities up sharply this year

After declining for most of the past decade, traffic deaths spiked 8 percent in the first half of this year, prompting a call from the nation's highway safety chief to find ways to reduce the human errors that cause most fatalities. More at the AP.

Tech Data HQ expansion is a first for new economic development tool

Tech Data Corp. is the first company to take advantage of a new economic development initiative by the city of Largo. Tech Data (NASDAQ: TECD) will get a property tax break each year for the next 10 years, under the city’s ad valorem tax exemption. More at the Tampa Bay Business Journal.

EDC records case won't go to Florida Supreme Court

The Fifth District Court of Appeal has denied a motion to send a widely watched local public records case to the Florida Supreme Court. Instead, the case involving public access to records of the Economic Development Commission of Florida's Space Coast will head back to the Brevard County Circuit Court. More at Florida Today.

fishing poles Hoping to fish soon? Florida is trying to make that process a little easier for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Governor Rick Scott announced that Saturday, November 28, will be a license-free saltwater fishing day.
