Florida's unemployment rate falls to a seven-year low

Florida's unemployment rate dropped to a seven-year low of 5.2 percent in September, down from a revised 5.4 percent in August, according to figures released Friday by state officials. The state added a meager 2,100 jobs over the month, but compared to a year ago is up by 235,700 jobs. More from the Tampa Bay Times and the AP.

Florida lawmakers try again to redraw state Senate map

In what may be one of the most expensive do-overs in Florida political history, lawmakers return Monday in special session to complete something they failed to get right three years ago — the realignment of state Senate district boundaries to accommodate population growth.
