Unemployment rate drops to 7-year low, could spur interest rate hike

The unemployment rate tumbled to a seven-year low in August as employers added a modest 173,000 jobs, complicating the U.S. Federal Reserve's decision whether to raise rates in two weeks. The Labor Department says the unemployment rate fell to 5.1 percent from 5.3 percent, the lowest since April 2008. More from the AP and Forbes.

Get ready, Labor Day travel crunch begins

More Floridians — 1.8 million — are expected to be among the 35.5 million Americans traveling 50 miles or more from home between Thursday and Monday, according to AAA Travel. That's the highest number of travelers overall for Labor Day since 2008. More at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Perez Art Museum Miami names new director

Los Angeles County Museum of Art's Franklin Sirmans has been named director of the Perez Art Museum Miami, PAMM's board of trustees announced Thursday. Sirmans will replace Thom Collins, who left PAMM in March to lead Philadelphia's Barnes Foundation. More at the South Florida Business Journal.

Experts predict more senior-housing construction

Of 182 industry experts interviewed by the National Real Estate Investor and the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing and Care, 69 percent said they expect construction starts to increase in the next 12 months across the country. More at the Orlando Business Journal.
