Business inventories rise, sales stay flat

Business inventories increased 0.3 percent in September following a tiny 0.1 percent rise in August, the Commerce Department reported Friday. The August increase was the weakest showing in more than a year. Sales were flat in September after having fallen 0.5 percent in August. More at the AP.


Sarasota lenders record bigger loans in October

Lenders in Sarasota County originated 1,228 loans for a total of $445 million in October - a six percent increase in total loans from the 1,157 logged in September and a whopping 94 percent increase in the total dollar value from $228.6 million. More at the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

Hertz to restate 2012, 2013 financial results

Hertz said Friday that it will need to restate its financial results for 2012 and 2013 and that it doesn't currently expect to file updated financial statements before mid-2015. The car rental company also announced that it will lower its costs by about $100 million annually. More at the AP.


High-speed Internet varies from coastal to inland areas in state

A U.S. Census report released Thursday shows that about 78 percent of Florida reported using high-speed Internet, but the percentages vary from metropolitan areas on the coasts to more rural places in the center of the state. More at the Miami Herald.

Coyotes are here to stay
