Florida private sector job growth jumps 30 percent in October
Florida added a sturdy 20,500 jobs in the private sector in October, a 30 percent surge from September and the best performance in months. That's according to the latest regional jobs roundup released Wednesday by payroll processing company ADP. More at the Tampa Bay Times.
CSX Corp. plans to cut 300 management workers
Florida-based railroad operator CSX Corp. plans to cut 300 management workers, mostly through buyouts by the end of the year. Most of the workers targeted are based at the company's Jacksonville headquarters. More at the AP.
ADT sales up, profits down
Sales climbed for Boca Raton-based security system company ADT, both in its fourth quarter and year-end results, but profits declined. ADT is the largest company of its kind in residential security, but has been battling bigger competition as it becomes more of a home-monitoring company. More at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
WebCongress to bring conference to Miami
WebCongress, a two-day digital media and marketing conference, returns to Miami for a third year this week with speakers from Twitter, Facebook, Sony, LatinWE, Lyft, AOL and other companies, with a special appearance by a young YouTube star. More at the Miami Herald.
Video game industry growing in Florida
Florida's computer and video gaming industry took a major leap last month when Google Inc. invested $542 million in a Dania Beach start-up called Magic Leap, which is developing an augmented reality system that could be used in gaming and much more. More at the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.
