Florida pays off federal loan for jobless benefits

Here's one more sign Florida's jobs market is reviving: the state trust fund used to pay unemployment benefits to hundreds of thousands of jobless every week is finally out of the red. Florida this week made the final payment to the federal government to cover the $3.5 billion it borrowed throughout the Great Recession to keep the state's Unemployment Compensation Trust Fund afloat. Efforts to revamp KSC get $20 million boost from Florida

In its quest to downsize the Kennedy Space Center (KSC), NASA has found a friend in Florida, which intends to spend $20 million over the next year to help shift shuttle-era facilities into private sector hands. The money for spaceport infrastructure projects is tucked into the $74.5 billion budget that Florida Gov. Rick Scott signed into law May 20. Florida’s new fiscal year begins July 1. Cubans more optimistic about economic changes

Owners of the unregulated neighborhood mini-casinos had operated with impunity for years in Florida after winning a series of court battles.
