Rethinking the Beachfront

Amy Welch Brill | 6/1/2005
FORT MYERS -- Local planner Bill Spikowski and Coral Gables-based urban planning firm Dover, Kohl & Partners have proposed tearing down at least three Fort Myers Beach hotels damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Charley and replacing them with a public beachfront park, a four-star hotel, a public boardwalk and a new street to help with congestion along Estero Boulevard. Fort Myers Beach officials hired the planners, but the city council must still approve the plans.
