Bobby Johns

Bobby Johns, born at Gum Swamp in Georgia and raised in the Creek culture, moved to Pensacola after retiring from civilian employment creating Army training films. In 1990, he founded the non-profit Perdido Bay Tribe. Now known as "Chief Bearheart," Johns and his son Robert Johns ("Cedar Bear") along with tribal volunteers, have built the Native Paths Creek Heritage Museum and Environmental Education Center and are operating a touring museum bus. The non-profit was recently awarded two grants that will fund the tribal group's work to help conserve Escambia County's 800-acre Jones Swamp Wetland Preserve.
