A Gift from Kuwait

American Red Cross volunteers from Florida and other Gulf Coast states received 15 new emergency response vehicles in September at Wheeled Coach Industries, a Winter Park-based subsidiary of ambulance manufacturer Collins Industries. The vehicles were purchased with part of a $25-million Hurricane Katrina relief donation from Kuwait, and each bears text on the side that reads: "This vehicle is provided by the Kuwaiti people and the Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society in recognition of our mutual friendship and common mission." Other funds from the donation will help build four Red Cross chapter facilities. The emergency vehicles are equipped to serve 750 meals per trip, hauling water and other supplies during natural disasters.
