A New Chapter Begins

NUC University–Florida Technical College Becomes Northbridge University

NUC University–Florida Technical College has officially entered a new chapter under a unified institutional identity as Northbridge University, a strategic evolution reflecting the institution's growth, expanded academic offerings, and long-term national vision.

Founded in 1982, the institution has steadily evolved beyond its technical college origins, expanding its academic portfolio, geographic reach, and role in workforce development. The transition to Northbridge University aligns the institution's identity with its current scale and future direction, including a $100 million investment planned over the next three years to support academic expansion, new campuses, and enhanced learning infrastructure.

"The transition to Northbridge University represents the evolution of an institution that has grown in scale, impact, and vision," said Michael Bannett, Chief Executive Officer. "This new chapter allows us to expand our national reach while deepening our commitment to helping students achieve meaningful academic and career success."

Today, Northbridge University spans a powerful national and international presence, with eight campuses across Florida—including Orlando, Kissimmee, DeLand, Lakeland, Tampa, Miami, and Pembroke Pines—19 campuses in Puerto Rico, and three Oregon locations through its aviation division, Hillsboro Aero Academy. Beyond its physical footprint, the university's robust online learning platform reaches students in over 40 states, making Northbridge a truly nationwide educational force.

As part of its academic growth strategy, the university plans to launch more than 30 new academic programs, including doctoral degrees, with 10 new programs scheduled to begin in 2026. New offerings will emphasize high-growth, technology-driven fields such as artificial intelligence, aligned with evolving labor-market demand.

In parallel, Northbridge University is developing 20 short-term credential programs designed to address workforce shortages and accelerate pathways to employment in sectors including health care, construction, and other high-demand industries.

Supporting this expansion, the university's $100 million investment will fund new campus locations in Florida and additional U.S. markets, advanced instructional laboratories, expanded academic offerings, and enhanced virtual learning infrastructure.

The university's academic portfolio also includes The DAVE School of Digital Arts, located at Universal Studios Florida, which offers specialized programs in visual effects, game production, and virtual production.

"All academic programs, campuses, accreditations, and authorizations previously offered under NUC University–Florida Technical College will continue uninterrupted under the Northbridge University name," the institution confirmed. Northbridge University remains accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, with all institutional and programmatic accreditations fully in effect.

"Northbridge University is not a departure from our history—it is a clear articulation of who we are today," said Dr. James Michael Burkett, president of the university. "This unified identity reflects the full scope of our academic offerings and supports our long-term institutional direction as a national university system."

According to Gonçal Bonmatí, the rebrand follows a multi-year strategic planning process focused on responsible expansion and long-term institutional resilience.

"This transition positions the university for sustainable growth while building on a strong academic and operational foundation," Bonmatí said.

The Northbridge University name and visual identity were formally introduced earlier this month during a launch event at the Orlando Science Center attended by university leadership, workforce partners, and community stakeholders. The transition will be implemented through a phased national rollout aligned with academic, operational, and institutional priorities.
