The University of Florida continues to be one of the state's most powerful economic engines, according to a new study released this month. The university's economic contribution report shows UF and its related entities generated $19.57 billion in industry output and supported more than 134,000 jobs across the state in fiscal year 2023-24.
UF contributed $12.6 billion to Florida's economy. Beyond its main operations in Gainesville, UF maintains a range of initiatives and partnerships, including extension offices in each of the state's 67 counties, and primary and specialty health care services in Jacksonville, St. Johns County, Volusia County as well as throughout Central Florida.
Findings from the report indicate that UF Health hospitals and clinics drove the largest contributions with 62,705 jobs generated and $5.922 billion added to the economy. This was followed by university operations, which supported 57,077 jobs and contributed $5.37 billion.
Since the previous economic impact report from fiscal year 2017-18, UF's economic contributions increased by 11.9% in employment, 15.7% in output and 15.4% in value added. Similar data sources and methods were used, and calculations were adjusted for inflation.
