Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University launched the International Ambassador Program to connect students and faculty. Partnering with SelectFlorida, the initiative strengthens Florida’s edge in aerospace innovation and education.
“Under Governor DeSantis’ leadership, Florida remains steadfast in its commitment to strengthening Florida’s economy — this strategic partnership with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will support the continued effort to expand investment, attract top talent and drive growth in Florida’s aerospace and aviation industry,” said Florida Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly. “Congratulations to Embry-Riddle on their success in building a partnership with SelectFlorida to bring innovative aerospace and aviation companies to Florida — expanding opportunities for economic growth on an international scale, benefiting Florida and Floridians.”
The program appoints faculty and staff as liaisons for cross-cultural partnerships and academic exchange. Dr. Riccardo Bevilacqua, interim vice provost for academic affairs and international ambassador to Italy, is the first faculty ambassador and has forged key relationships abroad, elevating Embry-Riddle’s profile. “Embry-Riddle connects world-class researchers and talent with countries where we’re focused on building partnerships,”said Embry-Riddle President, P. Barry Butler, Ph.D. “Aligning the program with SelectFlorida strengthens our ability to attract international companies.”
Cutting-Edge International Partnerships With Industry- Leading Partners
A milestone is the addition of Progetti Speciali Italiani (PSI) to Embry-Riddle’s Research Park at MicaPlex. PSI brings expertise in aerospace, defense, homeland security and energy. Its presence, enabled by SelectFlorida during a November 2024 trade mission to Italy, reflects Florida’s support for global partnerships and is expected to spur technology and jobs.
Both PSI and Dr. Bevilacqua were honored at a Research Park luncheon celebrating the program’s impact. “Our goal is to create a bridge not only between companies, but also between cultures of innovation,” Dr. Bevilacqua noted. “By fostering these partnerships, we empower our students and faculty to engage with leading minds globally and build the foundation for transformative research.”
International Academic Collaboration
Dr. Bevilacqua formalized agreements with Italian higher education institutions Scuola Superiore Meridionale of Naples and Sapienza Università di Roma, establishing dual Ph.D. pathways, joint research and faculty exchanges. These collaborations let students earn credentials from both institutions and participate in transatlantic research under leading scholars.
Setting New Standards for Collaboration
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has launched an International Ambassador Program designed to connect students, faculty and global partners in collaborative research and innovation. “Aligning researchers like Dr. Bevilacqua with economic development strengthens research opportunities and helps attract graduate funding,” said Embry-Riddle Senior Vice President and Provost, Dr. Kelly Austin. The program demonstrates how higher education can lead to global collaboration and drive innovation.
