Meet the Demand for EV Charging without Government Subsidies

Mt. Dora, Fla. – It’s been more than a decade since the first businesses in Florida understood they needed to offer EV charging as an amenity for their customers. At that time, electric vehicles were still a novelty. Telsa had just one model available and only a couple of other brands, the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt, were on the market.

Today, EVs are everywhere. As of January, there were more than 260,000 electric vehicles registered in Florida alone. Florida has the second most EV’s in the country, trailing only California, and in certain regions (Orange County), adoption even outpaces California despite the difference in state-level support.

Consumers continue to prefer and demand EVs, particularly as costs continue to decline and range continues to increase.

Until recently, many private and public entities were often turning to subsidies to help build out the charging infrastructure required to meet this demand. Billions of dollars flowed from the federal government for EV charging stations throughout the country.

However, the EV charging market in Florida has always been led by the private sector, and continues to accelerate. Several companies like mine are stepping in to build Florida’s network of chargers at no cost to companies or governments.

Recently, Optimus partnered with the City of Winter Park to provide EV chargers to their residents and visitors in key areas of the city. From the new Winter Park Library to the upscale Park Avenue District, nearly 30 EV chargers are available for use throughout the city.

In this arrangement, the city provided the parking spaces for EV chargers. We paid for the installation, the maintenance, and the operations of all EV chargers in the city.

This model can be replicated throughout the state as a way to meet the demands of your customers, your residents and your visitors.

Here’s how it works.

  • In this program, Optimus Energy Solutions:
  • Pays 100 percent of the costs of charging stations, networking, operating expenses, electricity, maintenance and repairs for the life of the agreement.
  • Makes a contribution, determined on a site-by-site basis, towards the electrical work needed for charging.
  • Ensures 95 percent uptime annually across all charging plugs.
  • Handles all permitting and implementation of the chargers.
  • Offers limited revenue sharing with certain term-length agreements, allowing you to generate revenue without capital investments!

With this program, the headaches and the costs of offering EV charging are gone.

You should ask yourself how many customers you are losing because of EV charging.

Look at your competitors with chargers. Those cars could have been staying at your hotel, shopping at your retail center, or leasing your space, but they chose to go somewhere else because EV driver behavior is empirically driven by the availability of charging stations.

If you are a government, this is a way to help your town center succeed or provide a service to residents and visitors.

Additionally, in today’s economy, where governments are seeking to reduce expenses, this is a perfect way to add an amenity without using tax dollars.

The demand for chargers is there.

In the first month of operations of the main mobility hub on Winter Park’s Park Ave. District, station utilization exceeded the highest end of our assumptions at seven fast chargers while shopping and dining, or catching a SunRail to other parts of Central Florida.

When we installed the first charger on Sanibel Island after Hurricane Ian in this program, the charger was being used before we could even cut the ribbon.

To start providing this amenity at no cost to you, just reach out. We’ll examine possible sites for the best utilization, electric connections and nearby chargers.

And then we’ll get you charging quickly!
