The pride and joy Zohan’s parents felt the day he was born was undeniable. But that happiness came with cause for concern when early in childhood, they noticed him walking on his toes while playing with friends. When Zohan’s primary doctor observed diff erences in the length and shape of his feet, his parents were referred to Dr. Shawn Standard and Dr. Jason Malone at Nemours Children’s Hospital.
The Power of Nationally Ranked Orthopedic Care
Drs. Standard and Malone diagnosed Zohan with fibular hemimelia, a condition where the
fibula bone in the lower leg is missing or underdeveloped. Together, they successfully performed a specialized limb-lengthening procedure to correct the discrepancy.
Zohan’s parents were both ecstatic about the outcome and deeply impressed by the unwavering support they received throughout the entire process.
“As parents, it’s very diffi cult to go through this process. But the way the team guided us from day one made it easier to navigate. They make patients feel like family.” Zohan’s father, Syed
Zohan’s Next Steps
Today, Zohan more than keeps up with his classmates with renewed confi dence and without pain. He continues ongoing rehabilitative therapy with the same team that’s been with him from the start. Syed knows the doctors and nurses at Nemours Children’s are more than just Zohan’s care providers; they’re his partners every step of the way, making him optimistic about the future.
“The road to recovery can feel overwhelming, but with the right medical team and support, progress is always possible.” Zohan’s father, Syed
