The new season of the Division I level of pro football — also known as college football — kicks off this month in Florida. Along with Name, Image and Likeness dollars, university players’ pay will come from revenue sharing with their universities, plus whatever collectives produce. University of Miami QB Carson Beck reportedly is being paid through various sources from $4 million to $10 million to transfer from the University of Georgia.

Ryan Brewer, associate professor of finance at Indiana University Columbus, pegs the value of college teams as if they could be bought like pro franchises. He values Ohio State as the top team at $1.957 billion.

Carson Beck was the top-paid Florida university athlete at $4.3 million. Monteverde Academy grad Cooper Flagg, who played at Duke before being drafted by the Dallas Mavericks, was second nationally at $4.8 million. Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith, a Chaminade-Madonna high school grad from Broward County, was in the top 10 nationally at $4 million. UF’s DJ Lagway was eighth nationally at $3.7 million.
