Lowering the Risk of Alzheimer's

Research

Omega-3

Diets high in omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease. Now a University of Florida study says omega-3s also might thwart the onset of type 1 diabetes in children. The study found that consuming more omega-3 appears to reduce the risk of the body attacking its own insulin-producing cells. Found in salmon, halibut, flax seeds, walnuts, cauliflower and cooked soybeans, omega-3 is also being studied at the University of South Florida for its potential to lower the risk of getting Alzheimer’s disease. USF’s research is part of a nationwide study supported by the National Institute on Aging.
