Pasco Innovation District: Moffitt is developing 775 acres in Pasco County, the largest expansion in the cancer center’s history. The new life sciences innovation district will serve as a hub for research, digital innovation, education and patient care. The project will include about 16 million square feet of research lab, light industrial and manufacturing, general office and clinical building space.

Located near the future intersection of the Suncoast Parkway and Ridge Road extension, the campus also is attracting commercial real estate development partners. Moffitt has received funding from Pasco County and the Legislature for infrastructure improvements in and around the site.

Permitting has begun for phase 1, with road work slated to begin early this year. The initial phase of construction, which includes clinical, research and developer-led office buildings, is expected to begin midto late 2023 with staggered completions in 2025 and 2026.

New Hospital in North Tampa: Moffitt McKinley Hospital is scheduled to open in July. The hospital will open with 80 beds fully staffed and 96 equipped and will have the capacity to expand to 400 inpatient beds.

Moffitt serves patients from across the U.S and 130 countries; in the next decade, the cancer center anticipates a 65% increase in patients and a 33% increase in cancer surgeries.

The 10-story, 498,000-sq.-ft. facility is located on more than 20 acres across from the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Outpatient Center. The hospital will feature 19 operating rooms, 72 perioperative rooms, three MRI scanners, three CT scanners and two nuclear cameras. The center also will continue to treat patients at its 270-bed hospital on the University of South Florida campus, about a mile away.

An elevated pedestrian bridge connects the new hospital to its outpatient center, which opened in 2015, across McKinley Drive.

South Hillsborough Expansion: Moffitt recently announced it had acquired nine acres in Ruskin for a planned 75,000-sq.-ft. outpatient center. The center will offer screening and diagnostics, lab services, radiation and infusion treatments, and clinical trials among other services. The facility will break ground in the spring with targeted completion in late 2024.

Future Hub

The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center broke ground recently on its Transformational Cancer Research Building, a 12-story facility that will be a hub for cancer research, innovation, wellness and patient-centered care. The center also will aim to eliminate racial, ethnic and cultural care disparities by working with Miami’s diverse communities and prioritizing their needs for care.
