Florida's general revenue tops projection in January

Florida collected nearly $200 million more in general-revenue taxes in January than had been projected, with most of the jump coming from sales taxes, according to a report posted Wednesday by the Legislature’s Office of Economic & Demographic Research. The state brought in about $4.066 billion in general revenue during the month, $199.7 million over an earlier projection. Sales-tax collections made up $183.5 million of the $199.7 million. AAA Auto Club is trying to keep impaired drivers off the road on this St. Patrick’s Day. AAA is activating its Tow to Go program starting at 6PM Thursday and lasting through 6AM Monday. The service is free, but AAA says it should be considered a backup plan. The program includes a ride for one person and a tow for their vehicle to a safe location within a 10-mile radius. Feds award record $12 million for Central Florida homeless

Central Florida is getting a record $12 million award from the federal government to fight homelessness — a 30% increase over last year. The money will target those who have been on the streets for years, often with mental illness or physical disabilities, as well as victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.
