Florida's general revenue tops projection in January

Florida collected nearly $200 million more in general-revenue taxes in January than had been projected, with most of the jump coming from sales taxes, according to a report posted Wednesday by the Legislature’s Office of Economic & Demographic Research. The state brought in about $4.066 billion in general revenue during the month, $199.7 million over an earlier projection. Sales-tax collections made up $183.5 million of the $199.7 million. Amazon Air operates out of multiple Florida airports, competing with FedEx, UPS and DHL

Where Amazon Air is stationed, the company is driving competition in the e-commerce industry, boosting the status of local airports, driving home the importance of domestic cargo operations and forcing infrastructure investments to address increased traffic and an influx of employees. Amazon Air is the company’s air cargo network that can deliver packages over long distances at a faster pace than via the traditional trucking industry, according to Amazon spokesperson Owen Torres. Too much St. Paddy's Day fun? AAA offers Florida revelers a free tow

AAA Auto Club is trying to keep impaired drivers off the road on this St. Patrick’s Day. AAA is activating its Tow to Go program starting at 6PM Thursday and lasting through 6AM Monday. The service is free, but AAA says it should be considered a backup plan. The program includes a ride for one person and a tow for their vehicle to a safe location within a 10-mile radius. Businesses struggle to find space in Tampa Bay, report finds

There’s a flood of new businesses wanting to set up shop in Tampa Bay, a new commercial estate report says — and it’s raising rents. But there’s not much available space out there, Franklin Street, a Tampa-based commercial real estate firm found. Vacancy rates dropped from 4.4 percent at the start of 2021 to 3.8 percent by the end the year, the lowest point in a decade. More from the Tampa Bay Times.

Feds award record $12 million for Central Florida homeless

Central Florida is getting a record $12 million award from the federal government to fight homelessness — a 30% increase over last year. The money will target those who have been on the streets for years, often with mental illness or physical disabilities, as well as victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival returns with 215 artists on Park Avenue

floridaWinter Park’s scenic Park Avenue will soon bear signs of an annual tradition with rows of artist booths, thousands of visitors clad in springtime attire and music floating through the air. The Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival, which has attracted more than 200,000 visitors in previous years, returns for its 63rd event March 18-20, back to its usual early spring time slot after moving to May last year.
