Making the grade: The latest Florida bar exam results are in

For the second year in a row, less than half of those who took Florida's online-only bar exam now can move on to become attorneys, according to results released Monday by the Florida Board of Bar Examiners. Of the 3,343 who sat for the July 27-28 test, 1,483 people passed — or 44.4%. That's down from 47.4% passing who took last year's summer exam, which was postponed to October because of the coronavirus pandemic. But counting only those taking the exam for the first time, nearly 72 percent passed. More from the Tallahassee Democrat.

Tropical storms Peter and Rose formed on Sunday and continued to maintain strength despite the threat of wind shear tearing them apart on Monday. Senate kicks off redistricting process

Senate Reapportionment Chairman Ray Rodrigues said Monday he wants the Florida Legislature to avoid the “shadow process” that occurred in 2012 when lawmakers drew new political district lines that were rejected by the Florida Supreme Court. The Estero Republican said changes have been implemented to avoid another battle with the court and that the public will be able to provide input on how congressional and legislative lines should be shifted. South Korean tech magnate proposes $1.2 billion town center for Osceola’s Neocity

South Korean tech billionaire Young-hwa Song will pay Osceola County $14.125 million for 25 acres in the county’s Neocity technology district and pledges to deliver a $1.2 billion mixed-use town center, according to the terms of an exclusive negotiating agreement unanimously approved by commissioners Monday. Financial scene grows in Brickell with arrival of two new firms

Brickell continues to attract new office tenants — and one expert says it’s just the beginning. The Manhattan-based financial adviser firm Legend Advance Funding and the Madrid-based renewable energy investment company Matrix Renewables signed office leases in Brickell, according to Colliers Director Tyler de la Peña. Colliers oversees office leasing activity for Gatsby Enterprises, the landlord, at the 14-story 800 Brickell — the building where both firms signed leases. More from the Miami Herald.

UF researchers hope to make solar more useful during long power outages

 A research team at the University of Florida has developed a system that can provide solar energy for homes during prolonged power outages. The Intelligent Control System is powered by rooftop solar energy and a battery but uses artificial intelligence to decrease the cost of keeping essential home appliances or devices running. By using “smart technology,” the system determines how much power and which appliances receive energy.
