Forecasters tracking 3 storms early in Atlantic hurricane season

The National Hurricane Center is tracking three disturbances early in this Atlantic hurricane season, one of which rates a mention in discussion among National Weather Service forecasters in Florida. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30, but tropical storms have been forming early in recent years. Florida's Turnpike going cashless

The days of seeing toll booths along Florida's Turnpike in South Florida are now numbered. The turnpike is now shifting to a cashless system. An all-electronic tolling system will enable cashless toll collection through transponders or license plate readers and eliminates the need for a vehicle to stop to pay a toll. More from WPTV.

Gas prices in Florida spike to highest levels since 2014

Floridians are paying more for gas than they have in almost seven years. According to AAA, the average price of gas in the state jumped 12 cents since last week, to $2.97 per gallon. That's around 6 cents more than the previous high this year, back in March. It's also the highest price for gas since November 2014. More from WUSF.

Space Coast tourism roars back from COVID-19 slump, even with cruise ships still idle

The cruise industry remains idle. Activity at the port is at a trickle. The cruise passengers who once generated $2 of every $10 spent by tourists in Brevard County are absent from the scene. And, yet, Space Coast tourism this spring was a record-breaker — at least according to one widely watched economic indicator. In March and April combined, the revenue from Brevard County's 5% tourist development tax on hotel rooms and other short-term rentals was $3.65 million. More from Florida Today.

Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport: Where business takes off

Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE) is owned and operated by the City of Fort Lauderdale. The Airport is designated by the Federal Aviation Administration as a general aviation reliever airport for the local commercial service airport. Executive Airport’s early beginnings date back to 1941. Formerly known as the West Prospect Satellite Field, the 900-acre site served as a training center for World War II Navy pilots, including former President George H.W. Bush.
