Bayfront Hospital's new owner and president

After a rocky six years under Community Health Systems, Bayfront has a new owner and president.

Under the majority ownership of Tennessee-based Community Health Systems over the last six years, St. Petersburg’s Bayfront Hospital saw layoffs, executive turnover and accusations from a nurses union that the quality of patient care was declining. In October, a new owner, Orlando Health, took over the hospital — St. Petersburg’s oldest and largest — and appointed John A. Moore as Bayfront’s president.

FLORIDA TREND: You had been president of Orlando Health South Lake Hospital since 2011. Why did you decide to leave that job?

JOHN A. MOORE: When the opportunity came available at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, it piqued my interest. I thoroughly enjoyed South Lake Hospital, the team members, physicians and the community. We had great success there collaborating with team members and physicians to improve the patient experience, quality of care and financial metrics.

FT: You oversaw expansions at Orlando Health South Lake and worked to improve the hospital’s financial performance, patient experience, employee engagement and quality of care. What are your goals at Bayfront Health?

JM: As we have met with team members, physicians and the community, we clearly have seen the need to reconnect and build trust with each of these important constituencies. That has been our primary focus. We have spent a lot of time reviewing the capital needs within the organization and setting priorities going forward. We continue to entertain opportunities to partner throughout the region.

FT: What tops your initial to-do list?

JM: We began with a listening tour, meeting with each department, a variety of physicians and community members. This has given us a tremendous base of knowledge with which to develop our plans going forward.
