Baldwin Mayor Sean Lynch fills in a grocery gap

One of a handful of city-run grocers in the country, Baldwin Market was conceived by Baldwin Mayor Sean Lynch after trying to attract a grocer to town for a year. Baldwin’s last remaining grocery store vacated a city-owned building in September 2018.

A rural community in Duval County of about 1,700, Baldwin is 15 minutes from the nearest store with fresh meat and produce. Lynch says the town’s senior citizens were especially affected by the lack of a grocery. “Seniors were changing their diet to have Happy Meals during the day,” he says.
