Florida TaxWatch: 2018 Voter Guide to Florida's Constitutional Amendments

In November, Floridians will vote on 12 proposed amendments to the Florida Constitution. As part of its mission to improve taxpayer understanding and government accountability, Florida’s premier nonpartisan government watchdog has released the 2018 Voter Guide to Florida’s Constitutional Amendments.

This handy guide contains expert analysis to provide voters the information they need before they cast their ballot.  For each amendment, the Voter Guide includes:

  • The ballot title and summary
  • The origin of the amendment; for example, if it was placed on the ballot by the Constitutional Revision Commission or by citizen initiative
  • The projected outcome if the amendment passes or fails, so the voter knows what they are voting for and against
  • Summaries of arguments from supporters and opponents
  • Independent analysis provided by TaxWatch experts.

“As a Florida taxpayer, I know how overwhelming 12 constitutional amendments seems when there’s already so much included on our ballot,” said Florida TaxWatch Chairman David Mann. “It is an honor to lead an organization that is focused on the best interest of the state and dedicated to keeping taxpayers informed.”

The analysis of each proposed amendment includes an in-depth look at the language, which is critical since a total of 17 separate issues are consolidated or “bundled” into six amendments. The TaxWatch analysis also includes the fiscal impact each constitutional amendment would have on state, county, and municipal governments if approved by voters.

For more than 30 years, Florida TaxWatch has produced a nonpartisan voter guide each time the ballot includes constitutional amendments, providing Florida voters with the tools to make sound and informed decisions about the proposed amendments. The guide also includes a one-page, formatted note sheet so that voters can make their selection choice on each amendment and take their notes with them to their polling place.

“It is imperative that Florida voters make informed decisions in this upcoming election,” said Florida TaxWatch President & CEO Dominic M. Calabro. “Many of these proposed amendments will have a direct impact on residents, businesses, and local communities. We hope that Floridians use this resource to make sound decisions about changes and revisions to the constitution of our great state.”
