Wynwood Brewing, Miami’s first craft brewery, began when Luis C. “Pops” Brignoni gave his son, Luis G. Brignoni, a gag gift of a home beer brewing kit. Luis G., in college at the time, took the gift seriously. In 2013, father and son founded the 15-barrel brewery in Wynwood with help from a $420,000 government loan. The brewery has been successful, but found the costs of expanding or moving its operations were prohibitive. To grow, the Brignonis have sold a 24.5% stake to Craft Brew Alliance of Portland, which will manufacture and distribute some of Wynwood’s products.
