Brian Hartz

Brian is an associate editor and fact-checker and joined Florida Trend in December 2025. He was the Business Observer newspaper’s Tampa Bay editor from 2017 to 2023 and won several Florida Press Association awards for his work there. Brian lived abroad from 2005 to 2012, writing for newspapers and magazines in Auckland, New Zealand; Toronto; and Victoria, B.C. He is a native Hoosier, earned a master of arts degree in journalism from the Indiana University School of Journalism in 2001, and has written for the Indiana University Alumni Magazine since 2013. He’s also a certified tennis, pickleball and padel instructor.
