How $100 land deal near Epic Universe led to a ‘first-of-its-kind’ housing project
Catchlight Crossings, a project led by Wendover Housing Partners, is under construction just south of Epic Universe and is expected to eventually include 1,000 apartment units, an on-site preschool, a grocery store, a giant fitness center, and educational opportunities through the University of Central Florida. The project sits on 20 acres of land that was once owned by Universal Orlando. St. Johns County is latest to consider moratorium on data centers
The St. Johns County Commission agreed unanimously Tuesday to join neighboring counties and hold a discussion at a future meeting about blocking all data center developments for one year. As she did last month, County Commissioner Ann Taylor urged her fellow commissioners to act before any development proposals for the facilities that power companies like Microsoft and OpenAI are submitted to the county. Clearwater appraises Duke Energy property as it investigates ditching the utility
The city of Clearwater has completed another big step in deciding whether to separate from Duke Energy by finishing an appraisal of all Duke property the city would need to acquire. The estimated value of Duke’s Clearwater assets is about $265 million, according to the city’s consultant, NewGen Strategies & Solutions. Officials are aiming to discuss the findings in July. The city is mulling its options as its longtime legal agreement with Duke comes up for renewal and residents have felt the pain of spiking power bills. More from the Tampa Bay Times.
New passenger lounge could net Miami International Airport $93 million
A planned new private passenger lounge at Miami International Airport could yield $93.8 million in revenue to the county’s Aviation Department over 15 years by offering upper-end pre-flight service to all airport passengers. A Texas-based firm, AD Partnership, bested six other applicants in bidding for an airport lease to build the lounge. The county says the company is to create a high-value passenger amenity, improving customer satisfaction during layovers and delays and generating long-term revenue. More from Miami Today.

Many of Uncle Pappy’s social media videos start with a shirtless old Florida man in a lily-pad-filled pond sharing messages of positivity, philosophy and a love for nature. In the last two years, his Instagram audience has grown to 1.1 million followers. In January, the previously anonymous content creator shared a clip revealing his true identity: Blair Carlyle, a 30-year-old native Floridian, born in Leesburg, who created the character of Uncle Pappy using a Snapchat filter.

Taking off
Northeast Florida is in its planned-communities era. In Robert Charles Lesser Cos.' list of the 50 largest planned communities in the U.S. ranked by 2025 sales, SilverLeaf of St. Augustine ranked seventh place, with an 11% jump in sales from 2024 to 2025. The Hutson Companies-developed community sold 1,002 units in 2025, compared with 905 the previous year. A total of 17,600 units are planned for the 11,000-acre community.
