Report: AI projected to add $100B to Florida GDP in a decade

The AI boom is about to be so booming, a new report from a pro-AI advocacy nonprofit says, that Florida’s GDP will grow over the next decade as if the state created a new $100 billion industry. The report, from Build American AI, comes as AI chatter is booming, too — and not only in a good way. State and federal lawmakers are proposing legislation aimed at all corners of AI, from data centers to parental controls. More from the Business Observer.

Broward County to kick off the World Cup with celebrations and soccer clinics

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is just days away, and Broward County is inviting locals and visitors alike to celebrate through a series of free events. Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens will host seven World Cup matches between June 15 and July 18. A few miles north, cities in Broward will sponsor watch parties, youth soccer clinics and celebrations with live performances to accompany the games, with the events starting in Lauderhill on Saturday, June 6. ‘Epic’ collection of Orange County tourist tax stretches to 13 months

Neither war abroad nor spiking gas prices at home have derailed a record run of tourist-tax collections in the Orlando area. The 6% surcharge on the cost of short-term lodging in Orange County brought in $37.7 million in April, nearly $5 million more than in April 2025 and the most ever for the month, said Comptroller Phil Diamond, whose office tracks collection and spending of the TDT dollars. Collection of the tourist development tax, also known as TDT, has reached record levels in 13 consecutive months. More from the Orlando Sentinel.

Mayo Clinic, Borland Groover announce AI-related initiatives

Two heatlhcare providers with a presence in Jacksonville announced initiatives involving artificial intelligence June 2. Jacksonville-based Borland Groover said it developed artificial intelligence technology to assist physicians at its gastroenterology clinics, while Mayo Clinic announced it had teamed with Microsoft to develop and deploy an AI model for healthcare. Miami-Dade mayor rejects $400M port deal negotiated by her administration

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava on Friday rejected a deal to purchase the fuel yard that serves PortMiami, a move that risks seeing the vital facility on Fisher Island converted into luxury condominiums. A day after firing two deputies who negotiated the deal with a development group that bought the fuel yard, Levine Cava said a reported $400 million deal to purchase the site was too costly for the county.
