A Tampa Bay Times story this month detailed how a return-to-office mandate from the Trump administration has some local U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs employees with disabilities saying they’re being discriminated against.

The employees say they’re being asked to come into the office, often against medical advice, or risk losing their jobs. The VA says claims of discrimination are absurd and that the agency is offering accommodations to employees with disabilities.

The Times spoke to nearly two dozen employees, many of them veterans, who handle disability benefit claims for the VA. We also reviewed their medical records and correspondence with the VA to confirm the accuracy of their claims.

Some employees now have hours-long commutes to St. Petersburg, which they say makes them unable to take their medications as they normally would.
