Descendants of Palm Beach’s earliest settlers are an exclusive club. They prize their pioneer status.

Sure, you can pay the $1 million initiation fee and get into the Mar-a-Lago Club. You can pay $3,500 a night and stay at The Breakers. You can pay $1,200 for caviar service at the new Tutto Mare restaurant at the Royal Poinciana Plaza.

But you can’t buy your way into the Lake Worth Pioneers’ Association. 

You have to be born into it — meaning, your family showed up in the “Lake Worth region” before Henry Flagler and his train did in 1894.
