Billed as a low-cost cruise missile, the L3Harris Technologies-developed Red Wolf can drop off a U.S. Marine Corps helicopter and zoom 200 miles to its target — roughly the air distance from Melbourne to Key Largo.
Red Wolf missiles will also launch from L3Harris' small Sky Warden military aircraft. This rugged, unusual plane is an Air Tractor 802U agricultural crop duster retrofitted with extensive modifications for U.S. Special Operations Command "irregular warfare operations."
"We've landed on grass, mud, gravel, fields, dirt roads, paved runways, unpaved roadways," said Clint Logwood, chief test pilot for L3Harris' Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance sector.
