Cypress Gardens Has a New Owner, Third Time in 12 Years

Mulberry-based Land South Holdings bought the oldest theme park in the state Tuesday for $16.8 million at a bankruptcy auction in Georgia.

Former owner Kent Buescher plans to stay on as CEO of the Gardens.Georgia.

"I have mixed feelings," Buescher said, speaking from the auction site in Macon, Ga.Georgia.

"It's the close of a big part of my life," Buescher said. "I'm apprehensive, but they've offered me a wonderful opportunity." Georgia.

Buescher is about $135 million in debt and sold Cypress Gardens Adventure Park and its sister amusement park, Wild Adventures Theme Park in Valdosta, Ga., as part of parent company Adventure Parks Group LLC's Chapter 11 bankruptcy.Georgia.
