The Florida Venture Forum held its first annual Early Stage Venture Capital Conference in Orlando on May 16. Fifteen Florida privately held, development-stage companies looking for venture capital were selected to participate. Typically, companies at this stage are starting to commercialize products or already in the marketplace.

Central Florida

Audigence (www.audigenceinc.com), Melbourne. Provider of a software-based product for assessing and tuning digital hearing devices such as hearing aids and cochlear implants.

iConvene (www.iconvene.com), Altamonte Springs. An internet service designed to help people find and book meeting rooms and meeting-related services as well as manage the meeting's attendees.

NeoCytex Biopharma (www.neocytex.com), Orlando. Developer of novel therapeutics to promote the repair and rejuvenation of damaged tissues, particularly to treat neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's and brain dysfunctions related to blood vessel diseases.

Oceanus Engineering, Inc., Alachua. Provider of products and services to the water quality engineering industry, initially targeting the environmental monitoring market.

Optima Neuroscience (www.optimaneuro.com), Gainesville. Producer of a line of brain monitoring products for use in hospital ERs and ICUs, designed to detect seizures formerly undiagnosed or misdiagnosed.

WiPower, Inc. (www.wipowerinc.com), Gainsville. WiPower's technology addresses the widespread dissatisfaction with today's corded charging systems. With WiPower technology, users can charge one or more electronic devices by simply placing them atop a WiPower charging surface.

Northern Florida

eLayaway, LLC (www.elayaway.com), Tallahassee. An internet-based alternative payments company. It lets consumers pay for a purchase from select merchants in installments deducted from their checking account.

Southeast Florida

Aplicor (www.aplicor.com), Boca Raton. A customer relationship management (CRM) software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) financial accounting solution.

McGruff SafeGuard (www.GoMcGruff.com), Miami Beach. Provider of services that help parents manage their children's dangerous online activities, alerting parents to sexual predators, dishonesty, suicide, drugs, credit card abuse and other crimes.

WinProbe Corporation (www.winprobe.com), North Palm Beach: Developer of a medical ultrasound imager that is a hand-carried instrument used to diagnose breast masses.

World Response Group (www.smartgrow.us), Florida City. The company, which does business as SmartGrow, develops, manufactures and markets all-natural horticulture and oil remediation products using recycled human hair.

Southwest Florida

Trimax Wireless (www.trimaxwireless.com), Naples. Provider of fixed and mobile broadband wireless networking solutions, targeted at local government, hospitality, defense and industrial markets.

West Central Florida

AquaVentus (www.aquaventus.com), St. Petersburg. Developer of a process to convert air into water.

On Demand Mobile Data (www.ondemandmobiledata.com), Venice. Delivers mobile workforce management for the small and medium-sized business market by way of touch screen smart phones.

XCPT (www.xcpt.com), Venice. Software products for the dentistry market.
