ReliaQuest: Cybersecurity Experts

| 1/17/2024

In March 2023, privately owned ReliaQuest in Tampa introduced a major enhancement to its signature product, further solidifying its standing as a global leader in the burgeoning cybersecurity industry.

That signature product, GreyMatter Intelligent Analysis, was launched in 2022 to identify possible threats and quickly alert customers — in about 10 minutes, not the typical days or weeks. The enhancement came in the form of a phishing analyzer that automates the entire abuse mailbox management process, greatly reducing risks from suspicious emails.

Then, in May 2023, ReliaQuest announced the ReliaQuest GreyMatter Mobile App, again accelerating incident response time. And in June, the company opened a 142,000-square-foot global headquarters in Tampa’s Water Street district, becoming the first corporate anchor tenant in what now looks to be a transformational mixed-use development in the downtown area. The move unites the company’s 500 Tampa employees.

To be sure, it's been quite a couple of years for ReliaQuest. Yet, in fact, the advancements simply mark continued ascension since Tampa native Brian Murphy started the company in 2007, nine months before the Great Recession. The company did general IT consulting work, mostly for government agencies. For nearly a decade, Murphy received no outside investment. Now, ReliaQuest is a major player in the world’s cybersecurity market, thanks to services that are available anywhere in the world, any time of the day. In addition to Tampa, it has 700 more employees in offices in Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Dublin, London and Pune, India.

Also, ReliaQuest is an economic driver, with its new offices helping to showcase the city’s new waterfront district both as a hub for startups and a place to live and play. ReliaQuest occupies seven floors of a 20-story building that bears its name. Water Street Tampa also includes several new apartment and condominium highrises, a Publix and restaurants, all within a block or two of Amalie Arena.

Further, Murphy, a Florida State graduate, is chairman of the board for Embarc Collective, which “supports the most driven and focused tech entrepreneurs in Florida,” according to its website. Murphy, in essence, is giving back.

As a result, while ReliaQuest is wielding substantial clout across continents, the company is very much moving the needle in its local region, too.
