› DeSantis’ tourism board seeks ‘satisfactory alternative’ to Disney perks
Gov. Ron DeSantis’ tourism oversight district is moving forward with a plan to end a Disney perks program, while working on a “satisfactory alternative” that addresses employee concerns, administrator Glen Gilzean said Wednesday. The district may increase a proposed $1,425 stipend employees would receive in lieu of the Disney benefits, Gilzean told employees at a budget session.

A Peruvian restaurant in Miami was just named one of the best new restaurants of 2023. Bon Appétit has released its 24 Best New Restaurants of 2023, and Maty’s in Midtown is the only restaurant in Florida to make the list. The Peruvian restaurant from Chef Valerie Chang — who with her brother Nando and father Fernando opened the beloved Peruvian-Japanese Itamae inside a Design District food hall in 2018 — opened in March.
› Venice City Council slashes property tax rate, reducing revenue by $2.9 million
Venice residents will be seeing a tax break after all. By 4-3 vote Tuesday night, the City Council slashed projected revenues for the 2023-24 budget by nearly $3 million when it agreed to reduce the proposed property tax rate to 3.9041 mills. The proposed $163.8 million budget – later approved on a 7-0 vote – and the tax rate are both subject to final approval at a second public hearing.
› Virginia company acquires SWFL golf course
The Club at Grandézza, a private Estero golf club, has sold. The buyer was the Heritage Golf Group. The sales price was not disclosed, and property records were not updated as of Sept. 13. This is Heritage’s 33rd club, and its seventh in the state.
